How does solar storage work?

Solar energy is produced by rooftop modules which feed the system inverter. Priority 1 for a system solar hybrid inverter is to supply the home with ‘free’ electrical power. Priority 2, when batteries are connected is to ‘top-up and charge’ the batteries. Priority 3 is to export any excess power ‘to the grid’.

During sunlight hours, solar energy generated first provides power for your home, this is Priority 1 (P1). Having a solar storage battery installed, P2 is to charge the battery. Any excess solar power available, after P1 and P2, is exported to the grid as Priority 3 (P3). During the evening, power for the home is taken from the battery first.
